_What is a Badpter?
Badpter is representing a combination of the following two words: Bayonet + Adapter
All famous square filter manufacturer like Lee, Cokin, Hitech, Lucroit etc. sell their own filter holder. Each one is a little bit different, but there is one thing they have in common. It is the way the filter holder will be attached to your camera, respectively to your camera's lens. All these filter holder do use an adapter ring which will be screwed into the thread of your camera lens. The way you have to attach and use your filter holder may cause some inconveniences as like as:
Here is where the Badpter comes in very handy. The Badpter is an adapter ring that is designed to fit into your camera's lens bayonet where you normally attach your lens hood and you know how easy, simple and fast it is to attach your lens hood. You now can attach the Badpter ring for your favorite filter holder just in seconds and being ready to use your filter holder, Beyond that, you can still use your slim Circular Polarizer (CPL) screwed into your camera's lens thread at the same time. No more need to buy an extraordinary expensive round filter monster of 105 mm.
The actual Badpter is made of high quality grade black anodized aluminum 6061-T6. The internal bayonet part is 3D printed (read more about this at the Technology section). Firstly we started to sell the Badpter using solely the 3D printed technology, but due to some technical problems, we decided to use the 3D print technology only for the internal part of the Badpter to raise the quality.

- Often it is difficult to screw the adapter ring to your camera's lens, it turns out that especially the ultra wide adapters are most difficult to screw in and it becomes nearly impossible when you have to wear gloves in winter
- The filter holders do not allow you to use round filters out of the box. you need to spend a lot of money buying a special adapter for being able to attach a screw on round filter on top. For these adapters you need round filters with a diameter of 105 mm, such a huge filter do cost even more money than their smaller predecessors you might need for your lens. Just compare the prices for a CPL filter with 77 mm and 105 mm
- If the adapter ring is mounted it is impossible to attach your lens cap to protect your lens any longer

LEE Holder
With the Badpter for Lee filter holder it is possible to take photos without any vignetting using a APS-C format camera and a lens that is set to a focal length of 10 mm or higher. You can have all three slots equipped with filters and in addition a slim CPL filter (up to 5 mm thickness) screwed on to your lens.
In Full Frame is possible to take photos using a focal length of 17mm without vigneting using a slim CPL filter (up to 5 mm thickness) screwed on to your lens.
COKIN Z-Pro holder
With the Badpter for Cokin filter holder it is possible to take photos without any vignetting using a APS-C format camera and a lens that is set to a focal length of 12 mm or higher. You can have all three slots equipped with filters and in addition a slim CPL filter (up to 5 mm thickness) screwed on to your lens.
If you like to use a focal length of 10 mm at an APS-C camera you will not have any vignetting when you only use two slots.
If you like to use a focal length of 10 mm at an APS-C camera you will not have any vignetting when you only use two slots.
_Designation and Available Adapters
Due to the hood bayonet fixation, Badpters cannot be designed with the same designation you will have for round filters. As an example: some Canon lenses do have the same 77 mm diameter for filters, but do have different hood bayonet sizes. In the next table you will find all available adapters and their designation.
DESIGNATION
LEE = L
COKIN = CZ
EXAMPLE:
If you have the Canon EF 10-22 and a Lee holder, the designated Badpter you need is the C83L
If you have the Tokina AT-X 12-28 PRO DX and a Cokin Z-Pro holder, the designated Badpter you need is a T77CZ

_New Adapter Designs
Our Badpter design process go through 3 steeps, in the next table you can see in what lenses we are working.
1 - DRAWING | 2 - DESIGNING | 3 - TESTING |
---|---|---|
Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD | NIKON 18-35G | |
Fujifilm XF 10-24mm 4.0 R OIS | ZUIKO 12-40 | |
SIGMA 70-200 f2.8 APO DG HSM |
Drawing: We have the lens dimensions get it.
Designing: We are drawing the adapter in 3D to print it.
Testing: We have the adapter printed and we are testing it in the lens.
There are some lenses that can't be compatible with the Badpter due to his construction:
- Nikon 24-70 mm f2.8 G ED AF-S
- Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
We have a big amount of lenses to design, with this poll you can decide what lens will be the next to be compatible with the Badpter, if it is not in the list you can add it.
